venus of milos is an ancient greek sculpture, created approximately between 130 and 100 years bc.

the conquests of alexander the great contributed to the spread of greek culture far beyond hellas. from now on, the immediate neighbors of greece have become many different peoples. this brought new realism to the art of that period. artists began to give preference to depicting different facets of human nature. even the faces of the statues of the gods were now given the features of real people.
