Frederick Freddy Charles Krueger is a homicidal maniac, the main negative character in the horror film series A Nightmare on Elm Street. Many critics have recognized it as a cult film character. He first appears in the 1984 Wes Craven film A Nightmare on Elm Street, as a man with a body burned to the muscles and bones, wearing a red sweater with dark green horizontal stripes and a brown hat. On his right hand, he wears a glove with sharp metal blades on the fingertips. During his lifetime, he received the nickname The Springwood Ripper (He can kill people in their dreams, but sometimes breaks into the real world, where he continues to inspire fear and horror. In dreams, Kruger is practically invulnerable and can be reborn after death. When Kruger is in the real world, he looks the same as in nightmares, but sometimes appears in the form that he had before his death. The character was created by director and screenwriter Wes Craven, the role of the maniac was played by actor Robert Englund, who played Kruger in eight films and in one television series. In the 2010 remake, he was played by Jackie Earle Haley.
