Types of Chromosomes

Chromosomes can be categorized into four main types based on their centromere position: telocentric chromosomes have their centromeres at one end, acrocentric chromosomes have centromeres near one end with a satellite region, submetacentric chromosomes have centromeres slightly off-center, and metacentric chromosomes have centromeres near the middle. These different centromere positions play a crucial role in chromosome segregation during cell division and can impact genetic inheritance and stability.
