documentation (history)

robert-houdin is often described as "the father of modern magic". before his birth, illusionists performed at markets and fairs, but robert-houdin performed at theaters and private parties. he also preferred to wear formal clothes, like the ones worn by the public. many current magicians see this choice as old-fashioned and prefer to wear casual clothing; doug henning was the first to rebel against this stereotype, with a more modern look created by himself.
